As a mum of two who built my original business Beautifully Organised while working just 10 hours a week or less, I've collected a bunch of ideas, hacks and strategies along the way to simplify processes, save time and make work easier - without sacrificing my income or lifestyle.
As a business owner, adding an online course was a game changer for me.
In my first business at BeautifullyOrganised.com I spent my first couple of months going in person to other mum’s houses and helping them organise their home so that the day flowed smoothly with young kids home with them (how to set up your kitchen so it’s easier to cook quickly & easily, how to organise the bathroom so it’s quick and easy to clean, etc).
The ironic thing was, I was helping other people have more time and peace but I was exhausted and burnt out myself within a couple of months!
So I decided to add a passive product to my business - my first ever online course was called “The Busy Mum’s guide to making life easier”. It had 4 or 5 learning modules and the first time I delivered it the tech was SO basic - I think I took payments with PayPal and then emailed the course using Aweber, with my videos hosted as unlisted on YouTube.
I made 6 sales that first “launch” and I was hooked. Instead of physically trading effort and hours for money, I made six times the usual amount by recording myself on my iPad sharing my tips out loud. No fancy set, lighting or systems, but people still found it helpful and sent a couple of lovely testimonials.
At that point I knew online courses would always be part of my business model, and for Beautifully Organised, about 90% of my income is now from passive products (online programs and planning prints).
On the Simpler Business side of things, I have a suite of mini-courses that I now sell on autopilot thanks to a simple email funnel, along with a handful of private clients and a few group coaching programs throughout the year.
If you'd like more freedom without sacrificing your income, an online program is a great option for you and a simple mini-course is the easiest way to get started with it!
I recommend starting with a mini course on a very specific niche topic, with just 6 modules including:
- A welcome module
- 4 learning modules
- A next steps module
Keep your learning bite-sized so that your student can learn and action it quickly and easily and enjoy quick wins at every step.
Over time you can add to your course and increase the price as it becomes a bigger, more in-depth program.
You can create and start selling your mini-course in just a couple of days! If you’d like a more detailed step-by-step on how to do it, the Create Your Simple Mini-Course program is the place to get it!
